Dick Armey? Why is that name vaguely familiar? Oh, yeah -- he's a Republican "once was" politician who has a bitter streak focused on Dr. James Dobson and Christian Conservatives. And, he hasn't got a clue...
Armey recently commented on Dobson in an article about Newt Gingrich:"My own view of the troubles of the Republican Party is that there have been many times over the years that Republicans have gotten themselves in trouble with the electorate by trying to make the Jim Dobsons of the world happy. But it isn't possible to make Jim Dobson happy. His occupation is not to be happy....I doubt very much that Dobson can control all the votes even in his own family, let alone hundreds of thousands of votes."
Hmm...Dobson has a radio audience far bigger than Armey's old Congressional district, the majority of whom are Christian soccer moms. Then there's the Focus on the Family media empire -- books, magazines, web, videos. The Left has long pouted over and refused to report the popularity of Dobson's books and radio show -- and Armey follows suit.
Newt -- always the man seeing the big picture -- saw the enormous political gain of appearing on Dobson's show. Meanwhile, Armey stupidly plays out his bitterness, never understanding the damage he inflicts on his political career.
