The current squabble over SCHIP -- whether a program for poor children should be expanded to the middle class -- is another salvo from those seeking government control of the health care industry. We must see the larger battle and save the children from Hillary Care.
Why? Because bureaucracy can't deliver. Consider the Veterans Administration. I have friends who work for the VA. Management policies have reduced the level of care for vets. Nurses and doctors are overworked. Doctors have formed unions to combat the problem -- a remarkable step.
Wasn't a government-run hospital in the news not long ago for housing patients in deplorable, deteriorating facilities?
We have government-run health care in this country -- the VA. While many excellent doctors and nurses are a part of the system, they have to fight a bureaucracy to do what is best for the patient. The bureaucracy doesn't have to answer to the consumer, doesn't have to compete by offering excellent service and care.
Do you want a bureaucrat deciding what's best for your child?
