Elite Universities: More Godless

Are you surprised to learn that far fewer professors at elite colleges and universities believe in God than the general population? That's one finding of a recent study

...to assess the observation by many religious conservatives that America's universities
are "a haven largely freed from religious perspectives."

This would not surprise Townhall's own Mike S. Adams, who often highlights the godless and left-leaning policies and professors in higher educaton -- an example.

Updated: Although not from an elite univeristy, here's another example.

ID Me, Please!

From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, today:

The Missouri secretary of state says St. Louis County election officials may have
confused voters — even intimidated them — by asking for identification that went
     beyond what is required.

How is asking for a photo or signature ID intimidating? People wear IDs at work. They may have to produce one to buy alcohol or cigarettes, or enter a club.

Voting is important. Voter fraud is serious. ID me, please! (And ID everyone else as well!)

Republican Loss = U.S. Loss?

Will the Republican loss in Congress translate into a U.S. loss in the War on Terror? At least one Democrat thinks it likely. Writing before the election, and recommending a vote for Republicans, Orson Scott Card writes:

If control of the House passes into Democratic hands, there are enough withdraw-on-a-
timetable Democrats in positions of prominence that it will not only seem to be a victory for
our enemies, it will be one.

The entire article is long, but a must read. I have never read a better analysis of the strategy that must be employed to win this war.

It's Vote Counting Time in MO

Turnout in Missouri may near the record level of 69%, according to media reports.

The turnout I've witnessed rivals the last presidential election. The saintly ladies at my precinct said at 5:30 that turnout had been heavy for a mid-term election.

The stem cell issue may be influencing the turnout -- and may favor Talent, according to the Christian Science Monitor. Story.

Winning Against Islamofascism

How will we defeat Islamic terrorism in the long run?

Get Tough -- Doug Giles says it well.

Our soft and stupid culture is setting us up to be no match for these Muslim youth
who are being wet nursed in Islamic death cults, being fueled with Muslim madness in
a land with zero economic opportunity and are feasting feverishly on a steady diet of
     Anti-American disdain.

Read the entire post. We can't afford a pull-punches war. We can't ask "Why don't they like us?" We must resolve to win.

Democratic Strategy on Values Voters

The values voters were key to the 2004 election. An analysis of events reveals the Democrat and liberal strategy on values voters in this election.

Win Them Over
After 2004, leaders in the party realized [viewing Christians as political opponents] had to
change. David Wilhelm, the former head of the Democratic National Committee, started a
Web site called FaithfulDemocrats.com. It's designed explicitly for Democratic Christians.
     Source

Candidates have also talked of their faith and quoted the Bible during this campaign. Is it sincere? David Limbaugh doesn't think so:

On social issues, Democrats and the mainstream media are engaged in an elaborate scam. I've been saying for years that they have undisguised contempt for traditional values voters. They are proving it daily through their concerted drive to suppress the values voter turnout.

Their inconsistent pretense to represent this very block of voters was revealed as the fraud it is by recent comments of Newsweek's liberal Jonathan Alter, who said, "I hope this election is going to mark the demise of values voters ... that they don't determine the election the way they were seen to have the last time around."

Discourage Their Allegiance
The second strategy is to weaken support by values voters. The entire Mark Foley scandal was trumpeted by the media and Democrats. It left fractures in the Republicans, with calls for Dennis Hastert to resign. But it was also effective in undermining the support of the values voters for Republicans.

A similar scandal has also erupted with mysterious timing -- the allegations against Ted Haggard, newly-resigned head of the National Association of Evangelicals. Is the strategy to make Christian voters hang their head in shame and stay away from the polls?

Attack

Finally, left-leaning organizations are involved in attacking Christian groups by filing complaints with the IRS. One liberal group alone has filed over 50 complaints of illegal electioneering. The threats to the non-profit designation of churches and other groups appears designed to reduce the mobilization of values voters.

I'll Miss Election Season

No, really. I will.

Our phone has been ringing constantly (interrupting my blogging). Recorded political message after recorded political message. I would be surprised to hear a real person.

Oh well, it is a change from the peace and quite we're used to around here.

I guess it's nice to be remembered, if only by a phone-dialing computer! (NOT!)

Religious Voters Should Choose Republicans

Religions voters, not simply Christian voters, should choose Republicans. Why? To uphold the freedom of religious expression. Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu – if your faith is important, vote accordingly.

The Highest Value
For me, as for many religious voters, the highest value is not economic issues. Nor is it the issue of human life. No, the highest issue is the freedom to express my religion in public and private life.

The Greatest Threat
The right of religious expression, especially by Christians in the public arena, has been under attack for some time. The greatest threat is from activist judges – those who impose their values upon society. They feel free to invent new rights from foreign laws, ignore the words and intent of the Constitution and scorn the will of the vast majority of Americans.

Activist judges have limited the expression of religion and foisted secular values on society. For example, one judge in California declared the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional because it contained the words "under God."

Since religious people vote, the Congress and the President are directly accountable. Judges are not.

The Only Choice
The Democratic and Republican parties have vastly different concepts about the role of judges. Whoever controls the Senate and the White House controls the appointment of judges to the federal courts. Democrats favor activism – it advances their agenda, be it gay rights, abortion, secularism, etc. Most Republicans do not favor judicial activism. The want judges that are strictly "referees," not those who take the ball and score for their favorite team.

That's why I will be voting for the Grand Old Party on the state and national level – even if they have disappointed me on other issues.

Reasons to Vote and Win

Rich Tucker highlights two reasons why conservatives must defeat the left:

They’re in favor of gay marriage, and they’re in favor of unelected judges making policy decisions and telling elected lawmakers what they must do.

He also makes the case for Republican victory:

Next week, newspapers may be writing the obituary of Republican leadership. There’s little doubt that Republicans, dragged down by their anti-conservative spending policies, are going to lose seats. But no matter how the election goes, it’ll be a victory for conservatives.

Are We Throwing Away the Cures?

For the moment, forget Michael J. Fox, Missouri's Amendment 2 and the election. Tony Perkins' recent Washington Update points to one of the quickest ways to advance medical treatments from stem cells -- umbilical cord blood. He states:

The bad news is that literally tons of cord blood are discarded every year.

Tony also points to some good news.

Fun: From Kerry to Amendment 2

In "honor" of comedian John Kerry, here's a few fun thoughts or links:

John Kerry insulted the American troops with his arrogant statement.
Today he apologized, claiming he botched a joke.
The "apology" didn't seem like much of an apology -- but that's OK, the "joke" didn't seem like much of a joke!

So, let's keep laughing...

Another Stem Cell Advance

 This just in from Britian:

British scientists have grown the world's first artificial liver from stem cells in a breakthrough that will one day provide entire organs for transplant.

The technique that created the 'mini-liver', currently the size of a one pence piece, will be developed to create a full-size functioning liver.

Described as a 'Eureka moment' by the Newcastle University researchers, the tissue was created from blood taken from babies' umbilical cords just a few minutes after birth. [emphasis added]

Another advance that did not come from embryonic stem cell research.
