Is Stem Cell Battle Necessary?

While the Senate and the President head for a showdown on embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) funding, we must ask: Is this battle necessary?

The promising advances in medical treatments are being made with adult stem cells. Today an announcement was made that
Type I diabetes patients have stopped using insulin for three years -- thanks to a treatment with adult stem cells from their own blood.

Why can't the Democrats and Republicans join together to fund research in adult stem cells and umbilical cord blood stem cells? These are the areas yielding results. They also avoid the ethical problem of destroying newly conceived babies.

The answer is two fold. First, the Democrats want a political issue with which to club the Republicans. They spin Republican opposition to ESCR as opposition to curing people. Second, pro-abortion supporters must push ESCR because it supports the dehumanization of newly conceived babies -- something needed to continue support for abortion.

By focusing on a showdown over ESCR the Democrats are callously ignoring promising treatments from other stem cell types -- all for political advantage.

More CO2 Helps Environment!

Gore and Global Warming Alarmists Debunked

Over 17,000 scientist -- including 2,660 physicists, geophysicists, climatologists,
meteorologists, oceanographers, and environmental scientists -- have signed
the following petition:

We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth. Why Did Iran Release British Hostages?

Iran released the British soldiers it held hostage. Why?

Kenneth R. Timmerman at NewsMax.com believes the sailing of the U.S.S. Nimitz -- a third aircraft carrier headed for the Gulf -- was a key factor. The Nimitz is scheduled to relieve the Eisenhower. However, if military action is planned against Iran, a window when three carrier groups are present could be arranged -- although anonymous sources say no overlap is planned.

Another possibility is the release of Iranian diplomat Jalal Sharafi from Iraq.

Islamic Evil and Western Stupidity

Evil committed in the cause of Islam continues. What else can you call:

-- crucifying a 14-year-old Christian boy
-- beheading a priest
-- beheading a toddler, roasting the body and sending it back to mom on a bed of rice

Details

Stupidity also continues here in the West -- running terrorist drills where Christians are cast as the bad guys.

Don't Claim to be Christian, If You Murder

I want to go on record and condemn violence committed by Christians against Muslims. The Christian Post has the details:

-----
An Indonesia court has charged 12 Christian believers with last year’s mob murder of two Muslims in Central Sulawesi province .

The men, who will face a maximum penalty of death, were charged Monday with the murder of a Muslim fishmonger and his assistant during a Christian protest in September.
-----

Christians who murder others in a mob are not acting according to their faith.

Contrast this with the jihadi, who believe that murder and mayhem IS the appropriate expression of Islam.

Run Reid Run!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid continues to run from evil. A pack of Democrats is scurrying along with him. Reid has displayed his true colors -- yellow. He has announced that next year he wants to stop all funding for the Iraq war. Rather than face the fact our enemies are evil and relentless, Reid and other demonize Bush and the Republicans.

Quote of the day comes from Vice President Dick Cheney: "It's time the self-appointed strategists on Capitol Hill understood a very simple concept: You cannot win a war if you tell the enemy you're going to quit."

Heart Valve From Stem Cells

A British firm has grown a human heart valve from stem cells. The interesting thing is no where in the article does it credit embryonic or adult stem cell research. But a close examination reveals the technique uses adult stem cells:

Growing a suitably-sized piece of tissue from a patient's own stem cells would take around a month but he said that most people would not need such individualised treatment. A store of ready-grown tissue made from a wide variety of stem cells could provide good matches for the majority of the population.

Democrat Jihad Against Bush

Is Another Political Beheading Ahead?

The Democrats in Congress are at war -- not with Islamic jihadis, but with Bush. After drawing blood on the administration in the Valerie Plame affair, the Democrats are now attempting the political beheading of Attorney General Gonzales. Many dream of hacking their way to the top with the impeachment of Bush or at least the indictment of Karl Rove or Dick Cheney on some crime.

The recent spending bill calls for retreat from the struggle against jihadis in Iraq. Nancy Pelosi is fixated on imposing the Democrat will on the President. "There's a new Congress in town" isn't a message she sent to enemies of our nation, but to her political enemy Bush. The Democrats have no focus on the struggle against insurgent Islam, only the next election.

Besides beheadings, the Democrats are like jihadis in another way -- the use of torture. The political proctology of investigation after investigation is designed to torment the administration and disfigure Republicans before the next election.

The Democrats are also in the process of changing the very legislative rules they enacted just a few weeks ago. They fear the minority might actually have a say in legislation. They want to impose their will, not engage in bi-partisan government.

This jihad against Bush and the Republicans will likely continue even when Iran takes further aggressive action. I wonder if any action by Tehran other than the nuclear bombing of U.S. soil would shake the Democrats from their struggle against Bush. Would they rally behind the President if Israel was attacked, or blame Bush for "failed diplomacy"?

Two jihads are operational today. The Islamic Jihad and the Democrat Jihad. The second encourages and strengthens the first.

Don't Let Them Down...

Step back from the emotions of the political debate about war funding. Don't forget our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, family, friends and neighbors who serve.

The video brought tears to my eyes. Will you let them down?

10 Questions About Global Warming

John Hawkins has an interesting article called "10 Questions For Al Gore And The Global Warming Crowd." Here's my summary of his points:

1. Since the earth has warmed and cooled several times in history, how do we know human activity has caused this warming?

2. If CO2 is the cause of the warming, why was the earth cooler between 1940 - 1975 when the concentration of these gases was highest?

3. If we can't accurately predict the weather a week in advance, how can we predict warming or its effects accurately?

4. Since Mars has experienced global warming, doesn't it make sense that the Sun is a greater factor than human activity?

5. Predictions and concern over global cooling in the 70s were wrong, so how do we know the current concern about warming isn't wrong?

6. If 17,200 scientist can't find evidence of human-caused global warming, why should we believe claims about "scientific consensus"?

7. Since the proposed action to correct alleged warming won't improve it, why push the changes?

8. Since we know that in the past the earth has been much warmer than today, why should we believe that we are facing a problem?

9. Since we know that in the past we've had more CO2 in the atmosphere than today -- without past warming having occurred -- why should we think current CO2 levels are a problem or a cause?

10. Since periods of global warming seem to coincide with periods of increased Sun activity, why don't we attribute the warming effect to solar activity?

The Stealth Program to Integrate Canada, Mexico and the U.S.

I remember learning people thought Columbus was crazy to think the world round. Others think watchdogs warning of a North American Union are also crazy. But something is happening...

Thanks to Kath, who sent in the following from
Wes Vernon:

Here is the wording in the notes for presentation at the conference, and they leave no doubt that the attendees seriously considered sneaking the NAU through so as to avoid the anticipated popular opposition to merging the three countries:

"To what degree does a concept of North America help/hinder solving problems within the three countries? ... While a vision is appealing, working on the infrastructure might yield more benefit and bring more people on board ('evolution by stealth')."

This prompted Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton to comment, "It is not encouraging to see the phrase 'evolution by stealth' in reference to important policy debates such as North American integration and cooperation. These documents provide more information concerned with the Security and Prosperity Partnership [an entity created by the leaders of the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with 20 secret working groups operating in the federal Department of Commerce, rewriting our laws, agreements, and regulations].

"The more transparency, the better," says Fitton. But that is not what we are getting other than through the efforts of Judicial Watch, Jerry Corsi (who's writing a book on this), Phyllis Schlafly, and others whose persistence has forced bureaucrats (kicking and screaming) to produce the documents on the big plans in store for us.

Has Dobson Endorsed Gingrich?

In so many words, Dr. James Dobson is showing support for Newt Gingrich, though not "endorsing" him. Dobson is also showing a decided lack of enthusiasm for Fred Thompson, since he is not an evangelical Christian who talks publicly about his faith. The Focus on the Family founder has also talked to Mitt Romney, but is cold to his candidacy.

From USNews.com:

While making it clear he was not endorsing any Republican presidential candidate, Dobson, who is considered the most politically powerful evangelical figure in the country, also said that Gingrich was the "brightest guy out there" and "the most articulate politician on the scene today."

Senate Runs From Evil

The Senate has joined the Democrat-led House in running from the evil in Iraq. The enemy is evil -- check it out here and here. So what do you call politicians who back down from evil? Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

Be Judgemental: 2

Yesterday I echoed a challenge to call Islamic terrorists evil. Dennis Prager is on the same track. He rightly calls the enemy in Iraq evil. In fact, he asserts they have plunged into a new, lower form of evil.
----
When the Allies conquered Nazi Germany, disaffected Nazis did not go around murdering and cutting off the heads of fellow Germans in order to make the Allies leave. Nor did disaffected Japanese blow up Japanese students so as to make the American occupation of Japan untenable.
-----
Prager then discusses the enamy in Iraq:
-----
These same "insurgents" routinely blow up children who line up to receive candy from U.S. troops. Likewise, college students are targeted for death, as are men lining up to apply for civilian jobs, men and women attending mosques, physicians in hospitals, and so on. The more innocent the Iraqi, the more likely he or she is to be targeted for murder.
-----
Prager has an interesting conclusion:
-----
It is, therefore, unfair to blame the Bush administration for not anticipating such a determined "insurgency." Without the mass murder of fellow Iraqis, there would hardly be any "insurgency." The combination of suicide terrorists and a theology of death has created an unprecedented form of "resistance" to an occupier: "We will murder as many men, women and children as we can until you leave." Nor is this a matter of Sunnis murdering Shiites and vice versa: college students, women shopping at a Baghdad market and hospital workers all belong to both groups. Truck bombs cannot distinguish among tribes or religious affiliations.

If America had to fight an insurgency directed solely against us and coalition forces -- even including suicide bombers -- we would surely have succeeded. No one, right, left or center, could imagine a group of people so evil, so devoid of the most elementary and universal concepts of morality, that they would target their own people, especially the most vulnerable, for murder.

That is why we have not yet prevailed in Iraq. Even without all the mistakes made by the Bush administration -- and what political or military leadership has not made many errors in prosecuting a war? -- it could not have foreseen this new form of evil we are witnessing in Iraq.
